Third Generation Family Business since 1953
Keith Davis was born on June 18, 1910. He played hockey and soccer and was introduced to tennis by his history teacher in 1926. Keith was very active running the York Simcoe Tennis League, which included Midland, Barrie, Mount Albert, Newmarket, Aurora, Richmond Hill and Thornhill before the Second World War.
He was inducted into the Newmarket Hall of Fame in 2012 where his wife Margaret Davis accepted his award. Margaret Davis was also inducted into the Newmarket Hall of Fame in 2015 for founding the Newmarket figure skating club.
After serving in the R.C.A.F., Keith and his family moved to Newmarket in 1946 where he found the tennis courts unplayable and the club defunct. He decided to revive the sport by concentrating on teaching children, which he did by providing free tennis lessons for children and adults in the surrounding area for 27 years.
Keith retired from the tennis club in 1972 when the Newmarket Recreation Commission was formed. The Keith Davis Tennis Centre was named in his honour. He passed away in 1999 and the business is now owned by Keith Davis's grandson, David and his wife.
